When most people want to lose weight, they think they need to do more cardio.
They start walking, running, cycling, or spending more time on the treadmill.
Cardio can help.
It burns calories, improves fitness, and is good for your health.
But if your goal is fat loss and changing your body shape, strength training should be the main focus.
At Quesada Fit, we focus on strength training first, with some extra high-intensity cardio added in.
Here is why.
Cardio helps you burn calories during the session.
This can help with weight loss.
But cardio alone does not do much to build or keep muscle.
This matters because most people do not just want the number on the scales to go down.
They want to look better.
Feel stronger.
Feel fitter.
Feel more confident in their clothes.
Strength training helps with this.
When you lift weights, use machines, or do resistance exercises, you give your body a reason to keep and build muscle.
This helps you lose fat while keeping your body looking strong, firm, and healthy.
If you only do cardio and diet hard, you may lose weight, but you may also lose muscle.
That can leave you feeling smaller, weaker, and still unhappy with your shape.
Muscle is active tissue.
This means your body uses energy to keep it.
The more muscle you have, the more calories your body burns at rest compared to having less muscle.
This does not mean strength training burns huge amounts of calories overnight.
But building and keeping muscle is helpful for long-term fat loss.
Strength training also helps you move better, lift things more easily, climb stairs, carry shopping, and feel stronger.
This becomes even more important as you get older, because people naturally lose muscle over time if they do not train.
Strength training helps slow that down.
To lose fat, you need to be in a calorie deficit.
That means eating fewer calories than your body uses.
But when you diet, your body can lose both fat and muscle.
Strength training helps tell your body:
“Keep this muscle. We still need it.”
This helps you lose more weight from fat, rather than muscle.
This is also why protein is important.
Strength training plus enough protein is a much better approach than just cutting calories and doing lots of cardio.
This does not mean cardio is bad.
Cardio is good for your heart, lungs, fitness, health, and calorie burning.
The problem is when people only do cardio and avoid strength training completely.
If you only do cardio, you might burn calories, but you miss the part that helps you build strength and improve your shape.
That is why we use both at Quesada Fit.
Strength training is the main focus.
Cardio is added in to improve fitness, burn extra calories, and support your health.
At Quesada Fit, we do not just want you to lose weight.
We want you to feel fitter, stronger, and more confident.
That is why we add short bursts of higher-intensity cardio into our sessions.
This might include the rower, ski erg, air bike, or simple conditioning exercises.
We use this type of cardio because it is time-efficient.
You do not need to spend hours on a treadmill.
Short, focused bursts of effort can help improve your fitness, challenge your heart and lungs, and add extra calorie burn.
It also makes training feel more complete.
You build strength first.
Then you finish with conditioning to push your fitness.
Strength training comes first because it is the most important part for changing your body shape.
When you are fresh at the start of the session, you can lift better, move better, and focus on good technique.
This helps you get stronger safely.
Once the main strength work is done, we can add cardio or conditioning at the end.
If we made you tired with cardio first, your strength training would suffer.
You would lift less, move worse, and get less from the most important part of the workout.
That is why our sessions are structured with strength first and conditioning after.
Another benefit of this approach is that it saves time.
You do not need to spend hours doing cardio every week.
You do not need to train every day.
A few well-planned strength sessions per week, combined with some conditioning, daily steps, and good nutrition, can be enough to make great progress.
For most people, this is much easier to stick to than long cardio sessions all the time.
And the easier a plan is to stick to, the better your results will be.
The best approach for fat loss is not strength training or cardio.
It is using both in the right way.
Strength training helps you build and keep muscle, get stronger, and change your shape.
Cardio helps improve fitness, burn extra calories, and support your health.
At Quesada Fit, we focus on strength training first, then add short, high-intensity cardio to help improve fitness and support fat loss.
This gives you a balanced approach.
You do not just lose weight.
You become stronger, fitter, and more confident.
